East Liberty building imploded without a hitch

It took less than 10 seconds in the morning of 17 May 2009 for an empty 20-story apartment building in East Liberty to be reduced to rubble. The former Penn Center High-Rise was imploded about two minutes later than the 9 a.m. scheduled time because some onlookers had to be moved away from the site at 6231 Penn Ave. The site will be used to build a new Target department store as part of the neighborhood's continuing revitalization...more
