Pyramid on the Thames: Tate Modern's 'unique' extension gets the go-ahead

A £215 million extension to make Tate Modern one of the most astonishing public buildings in the world is to be given the go-ahead. The Herzog-designed extension to the South Bank gallery is described as "extraordinary and unique" by planners in Southwark. Councilors vote on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 and are expected to approve the revised plans.
