SLS Hotels, owned by Los Angeles hospitality company SBE, will open a 14-story hotel in the re-launched Fifth and Columbia Tower, developers announced yesterday. The 660-foot (201-meter) downtown Seattle mixed-use tower is scheduled to break ground by October 1.

The hotel will be designed by French product designer Philippe Starck, according to the Seattle Times.

"Certain U.S. cities are benefiting greatly from the economic superpower called China -- the money that is flowing into homes and businesses here through Chinese nationals is amazing," Kevin Daniels, one of the tower's developers, told Bloomberg. "Add to that the economic and job growth at all the major employers in this area, like Amazon, Nordstrom, Starbucks and Boeing, and you have a city that is firing on all cylinders."
