Adrian Smith will receive an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from Texas A&M at the school's spring commencement. Mr. Smith is regarded as an outstanding alumnus of A&M's College of Architecture and is a founding principal of Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture.

Texas A&M cites Mr. Smith's work on the Burj Khalifa and the Kingdom Tower as well as his efforts toward creating sustainable architecture as the impetus for the award.

Adrian Smith spent four years studying architecture at Texas A&M from 1962-1966, before he left for a summer internship in Chicago, and finished his degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Adrian Smith was the 2011 winner of the Lynn S. Beedle Lifetime Achievement award from the CTBUH for his contribution to the supertall building typology.
