Developer Seth Hamalian is planning a 28-story residential tower for Oakland’s Uptown area, according to the San Francisco Business Times. The tower is intended for the site of an un-realized 2008 design by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill.

Mr. Hamalian purchased the site from previous owner Peter Wang, the Business Times reports (registration required). Mr. Wang originally envisioned a 55-story high-rise for the location and commissioned Chicago-based architects Skidmore, Owings and Merrill to draw up a design for what might have been the tallest building in the East Bay.

The plan was scrapped in 2010 and Mr. Wang put the property up for sale.

Mr. Hamalian's tower will be designed by the architecture firm Brick LLP.
