San Francisco's Planning Commission on Thursday gave its final approval to plans to build the 1,070-foot (326-meter) tall Transbay Tower, the San Francisco Examiner reports. The 61-story tower, part of a 145-acre Transit Center District with commercial high-rises, residential towers, hotels and retail space, is set to become San Francisco's tallest building.

The decision also may help the developers attract funding needed to build the tower.

Earlier this week the Transit Center received approval from the city's Recreation and Park Commission, lifting a long-standing ban on tall building shadows over parks. Find CTBUH coverage here.
