Moatti-Rivière Architecture Studio has developed a plan to incorporate a series of pavilions within the Eiffel Tower, up to 57 meters (187 feet) above Paris. The new program will transform the original reception and conference rooms into visitor information booths, restaurants, shops, boutiques and other attractions.
The firm is exhibiting the proposal at the 2012 Venice Biennale, designboom reports.
The design replaces the current opaque floor and balustrade grille with glass to enhance the views below. Photo-voltaic panels would be installed to accommodate solar hot-water production as well as wind turbines to produce an estimated 8,000 kilowatts per year. A collection system would recover rain water to supply restrooms with tap and toilet water.
