United Airlines is consolidating its headquarters in one downtown Chicago address--the Willis Tower, the tallest building in the United States. The Willis Tower – formerly the Sears Tower – is currently home to the airline’s recently-opened operations center.
United-Continental Holdings workers already occupy 12 floors of North America’s tallest building, after moving from Elk Grove Village in 2007. This action will bring the total staff to about 4,000 United employees in the building.
The move adds four more floors in a lease that will run through 2028. United is now the largest tenant in the tower, occupying almost 25 percent of the building’s space. The move comes after millions of dollars of incentives from the city.
