Gensler has shared the latest construction photos of Shanghai Tower, which has reached significant new milestones. At 632 meters (2,073 feet) Shanghai Tower will be the tallest building in China when it is completed, most likely in 2014.
Gensler’s design includes a unique dual-skin facade which provides atrium space for “gardens in the sky” every 12 to 15 stories. The “vertical community,” part of the the Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone in Pudong, will include offices and a hotel.
The tower has reached the 75th floor of the core and the installation of the curtain wall supporting structure is completed on Zone 2. The Zone 5 MEP, out of nine zones, is currently under construction.
At Zone 2 a round beam steel structure is visibly suspended with coupled pre-finished steel rods from the Zone 3 MEP floor above. This structure is then stabilized for lateral loads with a perpendicular round beam steel structure. Together this structure will be supporting exterior curtain wall panels installed at every level--144 curtain panel units per floor.
