A New York penthouse has hit the market priced at $100 million, which would make it the most expensive apartment in the city. The octagon-shaped penthouse on top of the CitySpire building includes three floors covering 8,000 square feet (743 square meters).
Earlier this year, an apartment 15 Central Park West sold for $88 million, and in May a U.S.-based buyer reportedly paid more than $90 million for a spread at One57.
The CitySpire penthouse is owned by real estate developer Steven Klar who bought it in 1993 for $4.5 million, the Real Deal New York reported. It is listed by Prudential Douglas Elliman agent Raphael De Niro, son of actor Robert De Niro.
The property has a separate guest or staff apartment, and is adorned with marble, pillars and gold material throughout, according to local media. It features six bedrooms and nine bathrooms.
The CitySpire is located on West 56th Street near Carnegie Hall, Central Park and Fifth Avenue, and offers 360-degree views of New York City.
But some New York agents are already speculating that the penthouse is overpriced.
“I haven’t seen the apartment but, based on the square footage, I would say it’s definitely over-priced,” Frank Ragusa, an independent broker who has sold more than a dozen apartments at CitySpire, told Real Deal. “It’s probably closer to a $50 million listing.”
