A proposed tower in Melbourne's CBD Southbank has been approved by the city's Planning Minister, despite strong protests from area residents. The proposed Queensbridge Tower, designed by Bates Smart, would be the second-tallest building in Melbourne at 275 meters (900 feet).

The tallest building in Melbourne is currently the 297-meters tall (975-foot) Eureka Tower.

Planning applications have also been lodged for a 66-story and for a 56-story mixed-use development. Residents of surrounding buildings are expressing concerns, claiming the proposed projects could jeopardize their views of the city and access to sunlight.

The Melbourne City Council is in the process of considering a new master plan for the area, including mandatory height controls.
