An Indian real estate company announced plans to build Sri Lanka's tallest building, a 65-story condominium development in the nation's capital. Safdie Architects will design the 400-apartment building facing the capital's man-made Beira Lake.
Moshe Safdie has designed the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum, Marina Bay Sands Hotel, the United States Institute of Peace and Sky Habitat, a new proposal for Singapore.
"What we wanted to do was first of all take advantage of the orientation and the views and have apartments with roof terraces open to the sky," Mr. Safdie said at the announcement ceremony. "Every apartment either has an open-to-the-sky terrace or a balcony.
“Being a tropical country and because of the location by the sea, we will ascertain the configuration of the building provides for a lot of cross ventilation."
The ground floor will feature restaurants and a retail area.
