A Qatar-based hotel developer wants to build a crescent-shaped building inspired by the two curved swords in the emblem of Qatar. The project, the Lusail Marina Iconic Development, was unveiled by Katara Hospitality at this year's Arabian Travel Market in Dubai.
Lusail is the fledgling master-planned development that will eventually house more than 200,000 people. Lusail will also be the site of the main stadium for the 2022 World Cup.
If nothing else, the crescent-shaped project will take its place among the region’s more dramatic proposals. The towers will include more than 800 hotel rooms and apartments, Katara Hospitality chief executive Hamad Abdulla Al Mulla told Construction Week.
The project will be built by 2016, he said.
