Research Seed Funding Grant Awarded
CTBUH is pleased to announce the awarding of the 2014 International Research Seed Funding grant to a team led by the University of Southern California School of Architecture who received a grant of $20,000, sponsored by ECADI, to conduct research on façade retrofits for tall buildings.

Student Competition Winner Announced
The final rankings in the CTBUH International Student Tall Building Design Competition, sponsored by ISA Architecture, were decided at the 2014 Shanghai Conference. First prize went to the Clean Air Tower by Alex Balchin from the University of Nottingham.

In Memoriam: Dr. Le-Wu Lu
Dr. Le-Wu Lu, an instrumental figure in the CTBUH's early years and Former Chairman and Bruce G. Johnston Professor Emeritus of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Lehigh University, passed away on July 27, 2014.

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat has announced the recipients of its two Lifetime Achievement awards for 2014. This year the CTBUH Board of Trustees will present the Lynn S. Beedle Lifetime Achievement Award to Douglas Durst and the Fazlur R. Khan Lifetime Achievement Medal to Peter Irwin.

Post Tower, a 163-meter office tower in Bonn, Germany, has received the 10 Year Award from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. The 10 Year Award recognizes proven value and performance in a tall building, across one or more of a wide range of criteria, over a period of 10 years since its completion.

Tall Buildings in Numbers: Highest Helipads
In this installment of Tall Buildings in Numbers, CTBUH considers how helipads are used on skyscrapers, and which are the highest in the world. The results were somewhat surprising, with 114 buildings over 200 meters having helipads globally, across 13 countries.

The International Commerce Centre (ICC), a 484-meter office tower in Hong Kong, has won the inaugural Performance Award from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.

CTBUH Names Inaugural Urban Habitat Award Winner
The Interlace, Singapore, has won the inaugural Urban Habitat award from the CTBUH. The Interlace is a 1,040-unit apartment complex consisting of 31 apartment blocks, each six stories tall and 70 meters long, stacked in hexagonal arrangements around eight large-scale, permeable courtyards.

2013 Tall Buildings Data Research Report
By all appearances, the small increase in the total number of tall-building completions from 2012 into 2013 is indicative of a return to the prevalent trend of increasing completions each year over the past decade.
