“Network-3D” High-Rise Design Studio Culminates in Shanghai
January 18th, 2015 marked the culmination of a semester of intense work for the students and tutors involved in “Network-3D – Tall Buildings as Extensions of Urban Infrastructure and Vitality,” a collaborative design studio undertaken by CAUP at Tongji University, with assistance from CTBUH and KPF.

CTBUH Staff Tours the Tribune Tower
Led by Blair Kamin, the architecture critic for the Chicago Tribune, the CTBUH Staff enjoyed a local tour as part of its annual holiday party tradition. The subject of this year’s tour was none other than the Tribune Tower, a neo-Gothic icon that has defined the Michigan Avenue streetscape since its completion in 1925.

Dubai Committee Holds Inaugural Event
The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) held its Inaugural Dubai Committee Event at the Vida Downtown Hotel, adjacent to the Burj Khalifa. The event was held to reintroduce and reinvigorate interest in the CTBUH in Dubai.

Composite Megacolumns Research Meeting Held in Beijing
Megacolumns researchers meet in Beijing to explore the behavior of large composite concrete/steel megacolumns with encased steel profiles. This is a continuation of “A study on the constructability and the engineering properties of Composite Megacolumns,” a project funded by ArcelorMittal in April 2014.

A CTBUH-Tongji University-Permasteelisa Group collaborative design studio has released results of its De-Carbonization study. The De-Carbonization study was produced by Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill Architecture in 2009 in response to the challenges faced by the city today.

In Memoriam: Paul Katz
Paul Katz, partner and president of Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, has died, the company announced November 21. Katz, 57, had a “brief but valiant” battle with cancer, officials said. Please join CTBUH in taking a moment to remember this monumental figure in our field.

CTBUH Chapters in Qatar, UAE Host Saudi Delegation
Henning Larsen Architects of Denmark have been commissioned to design a sizable new headquarters building for a key Saudi organization.  In order to study existing, similar projects in the Middle East, a small delegation representing the Saudi client traveled to Doha, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai.
