Ready-made Lists of Tallest Buildings

To give an overview of the functionality of the database, and for ease of access to important information, we have created a number of pre-organized lists, such as the 100 Tallest Completed Buildings in the World, the Tallest Buildings by Country / City, the Tallest Buildings by usage and structural material etc. Click here for an overview of these ready made lists of tall buildings.

Criteria for Defining and Measuring Tall Buildings

The CTBUH is the body which arbitrates on tall building height internationally and determines the title of the World’s (or Country’s, or City’s) tallest building. All the buildings on this database are measured according to the height criteria. For a detailed overview of the Criteria for Defining and Measuring Tall Buildings, including explanatory diagrams, click here.

Tall Building Height Calculator

Sometimes the number of floors in a tall building is known, but the exact height is not known. The CTBUH have created a tool to estimate the approximate height of a tall building where only the number of floors is known. To use this Tall Building Height Calculator, or see the assumptions that have gone into its creation, click here.

Tallest Buildings Constructed Annually

The CTBUH undertakes research to determine the tallest buildings constructed each year, and sets this in a historical context. To see this research for each of the past few years, click here.

In addition, research is undertaken on under construction and proposed projects to project the Tallest 20 Buildings in 2020.

Tall Buildings in Numbers

Tall Buildings in Numbers takes a statistical and graphical look at various topics related to tall buildings, such as height, function, geographical location, energy requirements, structure and others.  For a list of topics studied, including Tall Buildings and Embodied Energy and the Tallest urban Agglomerations in the World, click here.
