On August 2, 2018, the CTBUH Urban Habitat / Urban Design Committee organized its fifth annual Global Walking Tours. These tours took place in 24 cities around the world, and were focused around the theme Walking on Water, with each city exploring the role of the Tall Building in waterfronts and other natural settings. This year's theme was a change from past walks, which focused on cold weather spaces in 2014, warm weather spaces in 2015, tall buildings during twilight in 2016, and the spaces within tall buildings in 2017.
The events, spread across the world, were united by social media via the Twitter hashtag #CTBUHWalks, resulting in hundreds of photos, movies, and in-the-moment observations being shared.
After the tours, coordinators and attendees prepared detailed reports of their respective journeys, affording insights into the unique conditions of each city, as well as common themes.
