COLOMBO - CTBUH Sri Lanka was part of the CTBUH Global Walking Tours for the first time. The tour began at the construction site of a high-rise project called The One Colombo, formerly known as Krrish Square.

Despite an enthusiastic response and many willing participants, due to practical restraints on the construction site, the tour was only available to 25 participants, and priority was given to attendees on a first come, first served basis. Attendees for the tour included Chairman of Sri Lanka Institute of Architects, Senior Officials from organizations such as the Urban Development Authority, Ministry of Megapolis (Metro Colombo Urban Development Project) and a mix of senior and junior architects and engineers.

The event kicked off at 9:30 am with CTBUH Sri Lanka Representative Shiromal Fernando introducing the annual CTBUH Global Walk and welcoming the audience. He also reviewed some health and safety rules to observe while visiting the construction site.

Eng. Udayanga Alwis, Director of Civil and Structural Engineering Consultants (Pvt), then presented the audience with some of the engineering features of the building, followed by Eng. Arthur Alwis, an engineer who is part of the project design team, highlighting some of the structural engineering design features of the unique building. The construction challenges and solutions, and how they were administered on-site were explained by Eng. Mahinda Chandrasekara, Team Leader of Resident Engineering Consulting Services. The attendees were engaged with the presenters, asking questions and requesting further information on many of the complexities of the building.

After the presentation from the project team members, which lasted about an hour, Fernando led a Q&A with participants. Attendees then enjoyed refreshments prior to embarking on the site walk of One Colombo around 11:00 a.m, where they were able to witness the construction process they had just learned about in-depth taking place in real time. During the Global Walk, tour participants also got the opportunity to visit the Transwork House Building, which is a 100-year-old building undergoing renovation. After an educational and enriching experience that gave insight into an innovative tall building in Colombo, the event concluded around 1:00 p.m.
