On June 21, 2017, the CTBUH Urban Habitat / Urban Design Committee organized its fourth annual Global Walking Tours. These tours took place in 15 cities around the world, and were focused around the theme The Space Within, with each city visiting communal spaces at height. This year's theme was a change from past walks, which focused on cold weather spaces in 2014, warm weather spaces in 2015, and tall buildings during twilight in 2016.
This year's Global Walk serves as a precursor to the launch of the new CTBUH Technical Guide being produced by the Urban Habitat & Urban Design Committee, entitled Urban Spaces Surrounding Tall Buildings, which will be launched at the 2017 CTBUH Conference in Sydney, Australia.
The events, spread across the world, were united by social media via the Twitter hashtag #CTBUHWalks, resulting in hundreds of photos, movies, and in-the-moment observations being shared.
After the tours, coordinators and attendees prepared detailed reports of their respective journeys, affording insights into the unique conditions of each city, as well as common themes.
