|SHANGHAI – As part of a broader journey to China in support of the upcoming 2014 Conference, CTBUH Executive Director Antony Wood delivered a lecture to approximately 120 people at Tongji University, the CTBUH’s partner institution in China. Titled “Towards Sustainable Vertical Urbanism: New Paradigms for High-Rise Design,” the presentation focused on trends in tall buildings, and their relationship to macro trends such as urbanization, the development of Asia, and changing demographics, and set forth some design principles for the future.|

|He also spent some time with the “Chicago DeCarbonization Studio” – an architectural studio from Tongji that will soon travel to Chicago to undertake a theoretical tall-building design project on a riverside site at Wolf Point in Chicago. Funding support for this endeavor came from the CTBUH and Permasteelisa, via the 2013 London Conference Gold + Design Research sponsorship package.|
The agenda at Tongji also included an exciting visit to the future office space of CTBUH China, the first office of the Council to open outside the United States. The occasion of the future office discussions and lecture also yielded a productive discussion about Tongji’s supporting partnership at the Conference and further academic cooperation with CTBUH.
