TORONTO - CTBUH Canada Steering Committee members Michael Montgomery of Kinetica Dynamics and Andrea Calla of Tridel worked together to show off the under-construction Hullmark Centre mixed-use project, building and launch the first in a series of CTBUH Canada tours, attended by more than 40 people on August 13.

The Hullmark Centre is a regionally significant mixed-use development at the southeast corner of the Yonge and Sheppard intersection in North Toronto. When completed, the project will comprise more than 92,900 square meters  of built space, including parking, retail, office and residential. The concrete structure is complete for the 35-story south residential tower, with condominium finishes well underway; the 45-story north tower currently is under construction at Level 15. The large retail and office podium includes a direct connection to the Yonge Street subway line. A large private courtyard is located at the base of the condo towers as an outdoor amenity area for the residents.

The tour leaders were Tridel project manager, Tim Wiseman; Delterra project superintendent Guido Mazzonne; and Kirkor project architect Carlos Antunes. The Hullmark Corporate Centre is a joint venture development between the Tridel Group and Hullmark Developments. Construction management is by Tridel’s in-house construction arm Delterra. The architect is Kirkor, structural engineer Jablonsky Ast and mechanical-electrical engineer Novatrend. The guests were pleasantly surprised to find dedicated onsite parking organized in this very busy area of North Toronto.

Carlos Antunes, project architect, Kirkor, shows attendees the subterranean areas of the Hullmark Centre

Structured with three separate smaller groups, each taking a different route through the building, the manageable group sizes meant the tour was able to effectively convey insightful details and information. Attendance fees were applied to host a bar discussion immediately following the tour.

As an easy way for CTBUH professionals to get a look at notable buildings under construction and foster collaborative and critical discussion, future tours will be interspersed with the more traditional academic breakfast-speaking or panel-discussion events.
