Blue Cross Blue Shield Headquarters, Chicago

The Blue Cross-Blue Shield Tower is a unique case study. Originally constructed at 32 stories in 1997 with the provision for future vertical expansion, the 25-story vertical addition began some 10 years later in 2007. |

John Hancock Center, Chicago

One of the most famous tall buildings ever built, and still a progressive lesson in both structural engineering and achieving true mixed-use in a skyscraper (retail/office/residential/leisure), the 40-year old, 100-story Hancock Tower revealed some of its secrets to the attendees on this tour.

Legacy at Millennium Park, Chicago

At 250 meters, the Legacy will be the tallest residential building in the Chicago loop upon completion in 2010. The Legacy includes 356 luxury condominium units, retail space, space for the School of The Art Institute and The University Club, and parking.

One Museum Park West, Chicago

Part of the complex of new residential towers built adjacent to Chicago’s Museum Campus at the southern edge of Grant Park, this grouping of buildings is separated from the dense tall clusters of the Chicago loop. Attendees experienced a typical Chicago concrete-frame building under construction.

Trump International Hotel and Tower, Chicago

The newly completed 92 story, 415-meter tall Trump Tower is the second-tallest building in the United States, and the tallest building to be constructed in the US since Sears Tower in 1974. Tour delegates experienced the hotel and residential mixed-use functions of the tower, as well as some of the back-of-house spaces.

CTBUH’s Jan Klerks and Bill Maibusch represented the CTBUH as the guest of honor during the TowerTech fair in Doha, Qatar between October 12 and 15. During the opening session, they presented on global developments and sustainable tall buildings.

The final tour of the CTBUH Summer Study Tour series was held on Friday, 17 July 2009, at the Blue Cross Blue Shield Headquarters in downtown Chicago. Chicagoans have watched the progress of the major vertical building expansion since 2006, as builders have nearly doubled the size of the massive building. |

Chicago Helicopter Tour

On Sunday, July 5, CTBUH staff member Jan Klerks was invited on a helicopter tour over the city of Chicago. The tour was planned for an early morning moment as the sun shines from the East, allowing for good pictures from the lake viewpoint.

Aqua Tower, Chicago

The crown jewel of Chicago’s Lakeshore East community, Aqua Tower, was the subject of the second CTBUH Summer Tour on Friday, June 19, 2009. Led by Ryan Keane and Suzanne Browne of McHugh Construction Company and Mauricio Sanchez of Studio Gang Architects, 36 enthusiasts joined the tour.

Discovering Asia, Moscow

The 4th Russian Intellectual Business-Tour devoted to High-Rise buildings (“Asian Pearls: Shanghai & Hong Kong”) was recently held by the Moscow-based Lobby Agency with support from the CTBUH. The Russian tour group had a number of visits to landmark tall buildings and construction sites.

The Remaking of Mumbai Tour
