NAE Grand Challenges Summit

CTBUH Executive Director, Antony Wood, participated in the NAE Grand Challenges for the 21st Century: Chicago Summit 2010, held on April 21-22, 2010 in Chicago. Antony was a member of a panel session on the subject of Urban Sustainability. The session was moderated by Blair Kamin, architecture critic for the Chicago Tribune, and other panelists were: Jeanne Gang, Studio Gang Architects; Carol Ross Barney, Ross Barney Architects; and Roger Frechette, PositivEnergy Practice.

Over the course of the two days, the conference brought together hundreds of "thought leaders" from around the world to discuss the challenges that clean water, carbon, energy and climate, urban infrastructure, and global health pose to the future of our society, and even life on earth as we know it. By the end of the event attendees came away with a greater understanding of just how enormous and interconnected these challenges are. It is essential to making true progress that industry, government, and academia all work together. The conference was meant to guide the future of scientific inquiry and engineering innovation in the right direction.
