Renewing the Urban Landscape
New York, 16 - 19 October, 2005

CTBUH 7th World Congress New York       New York was the perfect venue for the CTBUH 7th World Congress; one of America’s most complex and challenging rebuilding projects – the reconstruction of lower Manhattan following the events of September 11th – was well underway, whilst the transformation of Times Square and 42nd Street was also nearly complete at the time.

Keynote sessions included “The World’s Tallest Building – Taipei 101” and “Future World’s Tallest Building? – The Burj Dubai” presented by the owner / developer teams. Other presentations included “Micro-Rise and Mega Buildings” on the work of Rem Koolhaas / OMA by Ole Scheeren, and a session on the WTC replacement tower entitled “A New Beginning for Lower Manhattan” by a team including David Childs of SOM and the developer Larry Silverstein.
