NEW YORK CITY – CTBUH Executive Director Antony Wood recently visited New York City, venue for this October’s CTBUH 2015 International Conference, to participate in the Facades+ conference hosted by The Architect’s Newspaper. Facades+ is in its fifth year and is the premier conference on high-performance building enclosures. The event was held April 16–17, at the CUNY Graduate Center.
The two-day conference featured presentations, panel discussions, and keynote addresses by various industry leaders. Wood presented Rethinking Façades for a New Skyscraper Vernacular, where he challenged conference attendees to reconsider their understanding of skyscrapers and how they embrace greater densities in cities, with a particular emphasis on the role future façades could play.

Following his presentation, Wood continued the discussion with a tall building panel of interdisciplinary experts, entitled The Future of Façades in the High Rise Realm. The panel included: Bertram Beissel, Partner, Atelier Jean Nouvel; Michel Michno, Executive Vice President, CH Holdings; and Craig Schwitter, Managing Principal, BuroHappold. The discussion stemmed conversations about the ways in which tall building façades have changed over the past few decades and the challenges tall building façades face in the future as they evolve into much more than just a “face” of the building.
