Students and professors from around Iran gathered at the University of Tehran recently for a CTBUH workshop on tall buildings and high-rise technology. The full-day workshop, organized by CTBUH country representative Dr. Peyman Nejad, was the first CTBUH event of its kind in Iran. About 45 academics participated.

| “The biggest surprise was the list of participants,” Dr. Nejad said. “They were from all over the country, not only Tehran.” Discussions focused on a variety of tall building issues, including modeling, structural systems and the development of design criteria for tall buildings in Iran, as well as the goals and objectives of the CTBUH. |

| In the afternoon students were asked to develop an efficient structure and shape for a specified project. “There were so much demand and enthusiasm,” Dr. Nejad said. “There is so much potential between the students and academics in this field. By educating them, finding the potential and leading them in the right direction could have substantial result in the close future.” |

Dr. Nejad plans to produce at least two similar workshops a year, and create a tall building research group with the country’s universities. “At the moment there are a few tall building projects, but not many [in Iran],” he said. “But I am sure there will be more demand and development in the close future.”
