The CTBUH Board of Trustees Meeting commenced with a welcome from CTBUH Chairman Steve Watts, Partner, alinea Consulting. Watts introduced John Jacobs, the new Chief Operating Officer of CTBUH. Jacobs will be managing the internal operations of the growing CTBUH staff, which now comprises 35 full-time equivalent employees, freeing CEO Antony Wood to spend more time on development and external initiatives.

Wood outlined the status of 2017 and 2018 initiatives at the Council, and provided financial projections for the close of 2018. This was followed by a briefing by Wood on the status of the next two significant CTBUH events: the Tall + Urban Innovation Conference, Shenzhen, China in April 2019 and the 10th World Congress in Chicago in October 2019.

Wood then provided an update on CTBUH’s executive search and strategic plan. The Council has at least one more executive-level position to fill, that of Chief Business Development Officer, also a new position. Individual Trustees then provided updates on their own activities within their respective disciplines and regions, and described their contributions to supporting participation in CTBUH initiatives, conferences and membership.

Watts took the chair role for the remainder of the session, outlining future plans for the Board and the search for new Trustees. The Trustees then moved into their role for the 2019 CTBUH Awards Program, by generating a shortlist for the 10-Year Award, two Lifetime Achievement awards, and five CTBUH Fellows.

The meeting concluded with recognition of two retiring Trustees: Dennis Poon, Vice Chairman, Thornton Tomasetti, after seven years of service; and Timothy Johnson, Design Partner, NBBJ, after nine years.

The next meeting of the Board of Trustees is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 8 April 2019, in Shenzhen, China.
