|CHICAGO – The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) was pleased to host the esteemed jurors for the 2015–2016 ACSA/AISC Steel Student Design Competition as they deliberated winners for the annual program. Administered by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA), sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), and promotionally supported by the CTBUH, the competition called upon students, working individually or in teams, to explore a variety of design issues related to the use of steel in design and construction. The competition accepted entries across two categories: Tall Buildings and an Open Submission category.|

|The Council was well represented in the jury, including CTBUH Executive Director Antony Wood and long-time CTBUH Members Jon Magnusson, Chairman/CEO, Magnusson Klemencic Associates and Gail Borthwick, Design Director, Gensler. The remaining jurors consisted of Doris Sung, Assistant Professor, University of Southern California; Lee Su Huang, Assistant Professor, University of Florida; and Elizabeth O’Donnell, Associate Dean, The Cooper Union.|
Throughout the morning of July 29, the jury for the Tall Building category gathered in the conference room of CTBUH Headquarters to deliberate and select a winner. This category acknowledges the resurgence that tall buildings have experienced over the last few decades, and particularly, how they are often implemented in isolation, with very little in the way of cultural, contextual, and environmental considerations. Students were thus asked to create a responsive vision for the high-rise of the future, with a focus on cultural and vernacular traditions.
