For the first time, the CTBUH organized an afternoon's Awards Symposium preceding the annual Awards Ceremony. Over 400 delegates heard from representatives of the regional award winning projects: Bank of America Tower (Americas), Pinnacle @ Duxton (Asia & Australasia), Broadcasting Place (Europe), and Burj Khalifa (Middle East & Africa). They also were privileged to hear presentations from the two lifetime achievement award winners, the Lynn S. Beedle award winner, William Pedersen, and the Fazlur Khan Medal winner, Ysrael Seinuk.

Presentations, Speakers & Videos

There were six presentations made on the afternoon, with each of the four regional winning Best Tall Buildings presented by representatives of the client and project teams, and presentations by both of the Lifetime Achievement award winners.


Awards Ceremony & Dinner

The CTBUH 9th Annual awards ceremony and dinner was held immediately after the afternoon Symposium in the nearby S.R. Crown Hall. The awards were bestowed at this event, and in a surprise move, the Council recognized the Burj Khalifa with a new "Global Icon" award.

Sponsors and Networking Break

The Awards Ceremony & Dinner was supported by a number of table sponsors. In addition the CTBUH had an exhibition booth setup with all the latest Council publications and information, which was enjoyed by many during the networking event.

Video Interviews

During the Symposium, Special CTBUH Media Correspondent Jeff Herzer conducted onsite interviews with many of the award winners/speakers and other prominent international guests. All interviewees responded to two specific questions about trends seen in the recent past and  in the future of the tall building typology.
