NEW YORK CITY – The first meeting of the CTBUH Young Professionals Committee (YPC) – New York City Chapter was held at the offices of Kohn Pedersen Fox on December 17th.
YPC in New York City will foster interdisciplinary collaboration among emerging professionals focused on the design, construction, and operation of tall buildings. Currently New York City is at the forefront of high-rise construction in the United States. The YPC will act as will an avenue for the local community to discuss the evolving role of tall buildings in the city and its impact to the urban environment. The group plans to organize events, conduct educational outreach to local universities, and engage the NYC community in building tours, group discussions, and various other activities.
Committee members engaged in discussion
An introduction was given by CTBUH Chairman David Malott, explaining CTBUH and its objectives to the attendees. Working Groups and the 2015 CTBUH International Conference, to be held in New York City in October, were discussed in detail. This was followed by an introduction to YPC by Ilkay Can-Standard of Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and Hardik Doshi of McNamara / Salvia Structural Engineers. The goals of the group and its future incentives were discussed with the attendees. Following the presentation, a discussion was held to generate input for future group activities and events.

The YPC New York City chapter plans on holding a general meeting to discuss local incentives and group direction in late January. Professionals interested in being involved with the NYC YPC should email Hardik Doshi at hdoshi@mcsal.com.
