CHICAGO – The annual meeting of the CTBUH Young Professionals Committee took place at the CTBUH Awards Symposium at Illinois Institute of Technology Nov. 6. The group reviewed previous activities and planned future activities, including an ultimate transition into the Chicago Chapter of the CTBUH.

Planned future events include a lecture series on the use of timber in high-rise design, as well as workshops and site tours of River Point Tower and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.

This year’s annual presentation was given by Sergio Valentini, Principal Architect at JAHN, who described in detail the Shanghai International Finance Center, a project in which JAHN is involved.

Led by committee chair Aleksandar Sasha Zeljic, design director at Gensler, the group also heard from CTBUH Executive Director Antony Wood.

The CTBUH Young Professionals Committee was created to be an incubator for the next generation of CTBUH leaders. It connects young members with established leaders within CTBUH to provide great mentorship and collaboration opportunities. Through articles, presentations, panel discussions, and white papers, the committee will bring the ideas, concerns and research of young practitioners and academics to the greater profession. In addition, the group conducts university outreach and construction site visits.
