The Council has established two new working groups: a Foundations Working Group and an Outriggers Design Working Group. Both are in the advanced stages of publishing industry guides. Follow the links below for more detailed information on the groups and their participants:

Foundations Working Group
The relationship between foundations and building behavior is highly interactive, with movements in the foundation resulting from building loads, and these movements in turn influencing the behavior of the building. Foundation behavior is mainly governed by the prevailing ground conditions, the foundation type, and the magnitude and distribution of building loads. The foundation design of tall buildings should therefore be considered as a performance based soil-structure interaction issue and not limited to traditional empirically based design methods.

Outriggers Working Group
As outrigger systems become more commonplace in tall building design, the Council has recognized the need for general guidelines and has thus formed the Outrigger Working Group. The working group’s primary goal is to develop an outrigger system design guide which provides an overview of outrigger system history, design considerations and recommendations. The design guide will describe in detail the application of outriggers within the lateral load resisting systems of tall buildings, effects on building behavior and recommendations for design.
