The Council is a member-based association with a clear organizational hierarchy including a Board of Trustees, Advisory Group, staff, global chapters/country representatives, and a broad international membership.

CTBUH by-laws


The Chair of the CTBUH Board of Trustees is elected by the Board to a two-year term, ideally with one year served as Vice-Chair in advance of the appointment. Information on current and past CTBUH Chairs, their strategic plans and messages is available here.

Board of Trustees

The Board consists of nine members who oversee the work and direction of the Council. The Executive Committee – comprising the positions of Chair, Executive Director, Secretary and Treasurer – meets on a regular basis to steer Council operations. Learn more on the Board members here.

Advisory Group

The Advisory Group is comprised of a wide body of approximately 30 colleagues drawn from the Council membership. This group provides strategic council and guidance to the Board of Trustees. Information on the Advisory Group members is available here.

Staff / Contributors

The day-to-day operations of the Council are undertaken by a core of full-time, part time, and contributing staff based at CTBUH Headquarters at the historic Monroe Building in downtown Chicago.

China Office

The CTBUH China Office leads CTBUH initiatives in China and Asia to grow membership and disseminate the latest technical knowledge on tall building development.

Regional Representatives

Global Chapters and Country Representatives are Council members that are appointed to provide direct contact to professionals in their respective countries and lead CTBUH initiatives locally. Click here for information on how your country is represented.

Working Groups & Committees

A number of Working Groups and Committees study focused aspects of the planning, design, construction and management of tall buildings and urban habitat across design, technical and social fields. These groups allow an international collaboration between building professionals.


CTBUH Fellows are recognized for both their contribution to the Council over an extended period of time and their work and sharing of their knowledge in the design and construction of tall buildings and the urban habitat.

In addition to its formal Memberships, the Council is affiliated with a number of significant organizations around the world. These companies often work in collaboration with the CTBUH in the planning and delivery of events and other initiatives.
