Mr. Lalit C. Gandhi was the Chairman of Remaking of Mumbai Federation – an inclusive body of various stakeholders in the housing sector of India working for the remaking of Mumbai. He was also the Chairman and Managing Director of one of India’s major housing and construction companies, LOK Housing and Construction, Ltd.. The LOK Group is engaged in the housing construction activities of Mumbai and its extended suburbs, specializing in making mass, affordable and elegant houses. Mr. Gandhi obtained a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters Degree in Public Health Engineering from the V.J.T.I., Mumbai.
While holding the position of the Chairman & Managing Director of one of India’s largest housing construction companies, Mr. Gandhi had been actively involved in various social activities, independently as well as through the LOK Group. He was the founder of the three schools that are associated with the LOK Group and had given a hospital to the society, operating through a trust. He was also the Founding Chairman of the Builders, Planners and Developers Association of Maharashtra, known as BPDAM, whereby the construction industry could have a platform to air their views with the Government, and he pioneered the movement to remove the cement controls in the early 1970’s. Mr. Gandhi was also the President of Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industry, during the period of 1993 to 1995 and was actively involved in issues concerning the housing sector.
