The CTBUH Board of Trustees has named to the position of Fellow two outstanding individuals: Ahmad K. Abdelrazaq, Executive Vice President of High-Rise Building and Structural Engineering Divisions at Samsung C&T Corporation and Felino Palafox, Jr., founding partner of Palafox Associates. Fellows are recognized for their extraordinary contribution to the work of the Council.

A member of the CTBUH Advisory Group since 2008, Abdelrazaq has distinguished himself through structural engineering work on some of the most significant tall-building projects in the world, including the Burj Khalifa and the Jin Mao Tower. Based in Seongnam, South Korea, Abdelrazaq has published numerous papers on special engineering topics and lectures frequently at universities and international professional organizations. In addition to being a contributor to Outrigger Design for High-Rise Buildings, Abdelrazaq has served on the board of the CTBUH Journal since 2008, was a member of the Awards Committee in 2009 and 2010, and has spoken at several CTBUH conferences, including New York in 2005, Dubai in 2008, and Mumbai in 2010.

“Ahmad is a noted figure and has been very supportive of CTBUH through the years,” said CTBUH Chairman Timothy Johnson. “He is an integral presence.”
Felino Palafox, Jr., is widely appreciated as one of CTBUH’s most energetic members. As the Philippines Country Representative since 2009, Palafox played a significant role in encouraging attendance of the recent CTBUH 2013 International Conference in London. Palafox founded Palafox Associates, an architectural design and planning firm in the Philippines. For the past 22 years, he has led and managed his firm in the planning of more than 12 billion square meters of land area and the architectural design of more than eight million square meters of building floor area, undertaking more than 800 projects in 34 countries.

Palafox is the first and only architect, urban planner and environmental planner to be elected President of the Management Association of the Philippines a 60-year-old management organization whose 740 members represent a cross-section of CEOs, COOs and other top management practitioners from the largest local and multinational companies in the Philippines.

“[Palafox] presents a different kind of energy than just being on a panel or committee,” Johnson said. “He represents a good benchmark and way to think about what this particular title is about.”

Abdelrazaq and Palafox will receive their recognition as fellows at the CTBUH Awards Dinner, November 7, at S.R. Crown Hall, Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.
