Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat
New CTBUH Trustees Peter Irwin & Tim J. Johnson


The CTBUH Board of Trustees welcomes the support of two industry leaders: Peter Irwin, Rowan Williams Davies & Irwin Inc., Canada and Tim J. Johnson, NBBJ, USA. The Board of Trustees, consisting of the CTBUH Executive Committee and 1 - 4 Trustees, oversee the work and direction of the Council. The new plans of the Council are going to be reported and discussed at the CTBUH Board of Trustees meeting on the 2nd of February in Mumbai.



CTBUH Trustee: Peter Irwin
Rowan Williams Davies & Irwin Inc.

At RWDI Peter provides engineering consultation on the impact of climatic loads for many tall buildings and other major projects.  He likes to work with designers to achieve the goals of aesthetically pleasing structures that work well with nature and that enhance the living environment in both the long and short terms.  He has been responsible for the wind engineering of a variety of very tall buildings including, the Petronas Towers, Taipei 101, Burj Dubai and Shanghai Center, as well as many other types of structure such as long span bridges, stadia, and convention centers. 

In the 1980’s he helped design the natural ventilation system of the Ecology and Environment Inc. headquarters building in Lancaster, New York, which in 2008 was awarded Platinum-level LEED certification, the oldest existing building in the world to achieve this distinction. He has participated in drafting many of the wind and snow load provisions for the building codes and standards of Canada, the USA and ISO and is adjunct professor at the Universities of Miami, Waterloo and Guelph where he teaches graduate wind engineering courses.  His work and publications have been recognized by a number of awards, including the ASCE Jack E. Cermak medal for lifetime achievement in wind engineering.  Peter and RWDI have been long time supporters of CTBUH, and have actively participated in many CTBUH conferences and publications.  He is on the editorial board of the CTBUH journal. At RWDI he was one of the founding partners, served as president from 1999 to 2008 and since 2008 has been chairman.



CTBUH Trustee: Tim J. Johnson

Timothy Johnson is a Design Partner for NBBJ where he leads the international commercial design practice. His award-winning work spans the globe and includes commercial mixed-use projects, multi-family residential, healthcare facilities, transportation facilities, and corporate workplace interiors. Tim is committed to creating vital urban environments as a prime sustainable strategy.
His work engages with local communities and cultures to inform the design process in order to deliver outcomes that will redefine the urban experience and improve quality of life.

Tim is known in the industry for using design as a core ingredient to a client’s business strategy. Interviewed recently by the Wall Street Journal and Fox Business News Channel, he is recognized for his expertise in designing within challenging urban environments around the world. His current work includes the Dalian Center Project – a commercial mixed-use development listed among the world’s tallest buildings, and under construction in Dalian, PRC. Tim was also the Design Partner-in-charge of the recently completed, award-winning  Sail @ Marina Bay, in Singapore – the world’s 10th tallest residential building. Tim was Chair of the CTBUH Awards Committee from 2006-2008 and has presented at several CTBUH conferences. Prior to becoming a Trustee he served in the CTBUH Advisory Group.
