SAN FRANCISCO – CTBUH San Francisco held a panel discussion featuring the two tallest buildings in San Francisco (currently under construction). Approximately 125 people packed the house at the home of SPUR (San Francisco Planning + Urban Research Association). The projects; 415 Mission Street, a.k.a. Salesforce Tower, at 326 meters’ height, and 181 Fremont Street, at 244 meters, were represented by their developers, Hines and Jay Paul, respectively. Architect Jeffrey Heller of Heller Manus Architects also joined the panel as the Architect of 181 Freemont. All three of these buildings are being constructed in San Francisco’s rapidly growing South of Market Area (SOMA).

Moderated by John Rahaim, San Francisco’s Director of Planning, the projects play an integral part in the development of the new Transbay District within SOMA, with all of these prominent towers connecting to Transbay Terminal. The under-construction "Grand Central Terminal of the West” is an intermodal station housing high-speed rail, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), and bus lanes. The five-story station will connect various modes throughout the Bay Area with Silicon Valley, and points south all the way to Los Angeles.

The towers have direct access to the 5.4-acre ( 0.4-hectare) City Park the station. From the structural design, to the sustainability, to the attraction of the burgeoning tech sector tenants of the Bay Area, these towers were well represented in all respects, and an engaged audience was treated to a great dialogue between the panelists and the attendees.
